Teen Vogue March Issue Featuring Alice, Ballerinas, Fairytales and Model-Stupid-Face Part 1

This issue of teenVogue came with a mini-issue called prom magic. And it was. The main photoshoot featured a fairytale-like homecoming court filled with laces, frills, pastels, pearls and Prince Charmings.

It's a small picture, but isn't it gorgeous? It's almost dreamlike, with her delicate feathery sleeves, her lace and mesh ballerina inspired skirt and the string f elegant pearls. I immediately had to read the issue after I saw the cover.

Camilla Belle (also in this issue) was weary a similar, albeit more girly version. She is a vision in white, with a more intricate and delicate lace pattern. I also like how she paired the sliver clutch and bracelet with it.
Also in this issue was a beautiful Santi sequin and tulle clutch and target pearl stud earings. Unfortunately, I was too distracted to remember to take a picture.

The Emma's were also in this issue.

Emma Watson was wearing a beautiful, flowing, floor length dress with a beautiful pattern and a rolled sash just above her waist. Emma Roberts was wearing a slightly torn knee length pale pink contraption. A clingy gossamer overdress (well that's what I think it is, I can't really tell). Really, I think it's very elegant, especially with the lace brooches? and the slightly worn feel makes it very authenic. I also applaud her choice on pearly créme shoes.

I love the golden Sam Edelman shoe. I especially love the subtle use of animal pronts. The inside appears to be leathe print and the leather outside is somehow raptilian and matches the print of the Deux Lux wallet. The brass of the shoe and of the leaf trinkets on the earring match almost perfectly, and the violet glass complements the color of the wallet. On the left, we have too very retour prévues et belle dresses. Both of them have very elegant features, but are very casual. Alberta Ferretti (one of my favorite designers) has a very blasé and bohemian look with her loose  striped dress. (Note the model's shoes.)
I love this shot. It reminds me of Le Petit Prince. It has this childlike simplicity to it. It has a beautiful truth to it. Unfotunately, prom is nothing like this. Sigh. Moving on from this, I really like the straps tied around the Homecoming King and his paper crown. In my opinion, this is much better than a tux, which is very overdone. The lace trimming on the queen's dress is prima
On the right is a great use of a cardigan. The tan belt cinches the waist so the cardigan (notice the subtle use of sequins.)  I also like the statement necklace, which is a braid with cone spikes, a more romantic turn on what Eddie Borgo made famous. Right below is part of the same picture. The turquois Burberry clutch, which adds vivid color among the pastel and Vanessa Bruno lace bracelets, which I now need.

Using a sleek Phillip Lim vest with a tutu like Betsey johnson dress is ingenious. Here the also use lace bracelets. Well, I think they are lace (sometimes my ignorance is astonishing) And ofcourse I loved the cotton candy leggings (sorry if you can't see them) which succeed make this fairytale practical.
The next two pictures I wasn't too excited about, even though they were still very good. However, I decided to use them to show you the brilliance of Antonio Marras. "Look on my works ye mighty and despair!"

Somehow this picture makes the models (Mak and Rosie) look like the Muses. (Oh, but where is Aoidé?)
This dress is a little out of place in this shoot, but I love it anyway. The pink lips pop out from tan dress, both because of the color and because, literally, the lips do pop out a bit. The dress, misplaced as it is, is really just so charming and quirky and I can't blame the stylist for putting it in there. And it's no wonder I love the dress, it's Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti.
Above:Apparently, not only does Antonio Marras make great shoes; he makes fabric necklaces. At first I thought it was part of the dress, but it's a necklace of fabric flowers. Which is just amazing. Below: The object I am thinking of has feathers, lace, is fun, and sophisticated. It has a Grecian profile set on turquoise, and a crocheted pattern encircling it.What is it? a Teeny House Bunny haircomb!
He is cute. If you like a mild dose of eyecandy with your fashion, I guarentee you'll find it here.
If you need conformation to get behind my ballerina-fairytale movement, look no further.Chanel Iman in gossamer and lace.

So, whew, that was probably my longest post so far. Next time I'll explain the Alice and the stupid face, but for now, ciao!

Well, I WAS in a Bad Mood...

Oh, why is the joy of vacation so evanescent? At our school, the administrators give us a week off in Febuary, and, well, vacations are only fun when you are in the 7th ring of hell (school) or the first day off. Then it turns into an endless list of chores your parents force you to do because they think you have nothing to do. Meanwhile, the teachers give you a shitload of homework to do, because they think you have nothing to do. Why can't adults just leave us with nothing to do?

So anyway, I've been feeling terrible all day because I have a monster headache and I had to do all this ridiculous Civics and Math homework, and I'm completely stressed about my Extended Essay (topic is how Expressionism influences the treatment of topics in silent films) and I had to CLEAN THE TOILET which was disgusting and I won't go into detail. Oh, and I think Nosferatu is stalking me. Ugh.

So basically I was writhing in misery when I found this.

I feel rejuvenated.

Now I think I can actually get started on my Science project.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a difficult holiday. It's not like the normal hoidays.

I hate Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day, for starters is segregated. People who aren't in a relationship of some sort are treated like second-class citizens.

Person1: Oh, so you don't have a Valentine. Oh that sucks for you.
Person2: Eh, it's not so bad.
Person1: Poor you. you have to buy chocolate's for yourself.
Person2: Well I always get the kind I like. Hehe.
Person1: You poor, poor soul. All alone on Valentine's Day.
(I wish I had a dollar for every time I had this conversation. Because then I would... actually I wouldn't have that much money. Stupid Valentine's only comes once a year. Ugh.)

It's worse because we are targeted. Single people are targeted by the media. Because, you know, a woman can't find happiness without a big strong man to buy her useless junk. And the men have to find the perfect gift for their partner or they are the scum beneath our feet. Everyone knows that material possesions are the only way to show you care. Right?

The worst part of Valentine's Day is you can't hate it in peace. Being Anti-Valentine used to be so hip. You used to be a complete bada** because you were against the comercialization of love. But that trend ran it's course and being Anti-Valentine is sooo clichèd. What are you, a Scrouge? Of Valentine's?

The worst though is for those newly single. I mean, some of us have been in the biz for a while. But newcomers aren't used to the nostalgic, depressed feelings and constant thoughts of your last relationship and what you could have done to make it last longer.

The worst part is, Valentine's Day doesn't celebrate the mutual feeling of respect and love between people anymore. This is the 21st century. We want to be better than everyone else. Who cares about sissy feelings. Valentine's Day is about making everyone else feel bad because 'you got a Valentine, and they didn't, na nanana na.'

So yes I'm complaining. And yes I hate Valentine's Day. Can you blame me?

So I'm Conforming A Bit

A lot of famous wonderful bloggers have been blogging. Ok, that's kind of obvious, but they're blogging about the same things: McQueen and Girl Power.

Obviously my last post was about McQueen, but the funny thing is I was actually going to post about Girl Power. So either bloggers are all on the same wave when it comes to blogging, or human's are influenced by the same things. The former option is obviously the cooler option.

Ok, so I might not be as famous or talented like these fellow bloggers, but it's kind of weird, right?

But moving on, I have only read the first chapter, which makes me a traitor of sorts. But the first chapter was epic beyond belief. But for some reason I couldn't buy the book.

(Takes place in Borders. A man about 50 interrupts a 15-year-old girls enthralled reading)

Dad: Hey Veronica, it's time to go. Your mom's in the car.
Veronica (me): Dad, can I have this book? Pleeeeeeeeease?
Dad: Yeah, sure (girl smiles joyfully) If you have the money.

(Girl leaves store with man, dragging her feet tears springing in her eyes as she tragically laments her unfortunate situation.)

The problem with my dad is he spoils me. I am a little princess on a lavish throne. All shall bow to me. As long as I continue acting like the small, sweet child I was in the yesteryear. If I act like an adult, however, I get treated as an equal. Which isn't that bad. Except I don't get spoiled.

But if I act like a teenager, you know, act my age, I am a nuisance. To emotional, unrational and annoying. Which is why I didn't get the book. but excuse me for being 15. Yeesh.Well anyway, I'l end this post with a promise to get that book and thoroughly review it.

As for now ladies and gentlemen of the audience, the afore mentioned bloggers have a word or two on the book.

Click here for Tavi, AFitz, Hazel, Isabel and there posts are most excellent which is not surprising since they are awesome bloggers.

Fashion
If you know anything about high fashion, you know Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest, most artistic visionaries in the fashion industry. The fashion designer, who was only 40 was found dead. Many believe that he may have commited suicide, but the authorities and his publicists have remained mum about it.

...

His work was extraordinary. Simply astounding. He turned the runway into a stage production that could rival any play or musical. His runway was a complex work that took your breath away and wonder if this man was human or a demigod. His eccentric work inspired so many people, but no one could really make clothes like he did. Nothing was lacking in his art. I strongly believe that the more recent outrageous designs we have been seeing on the runways and even the red carpet was because of him. He did not make clothes. He made art. He opened the fashion world up so that clothes today can have endless possibilties. He gave us the ability to escape from conformity.

But at the pinnacle of his career, he was just...gone. By his own great hand that created masterpeices that should have been beyond the ability of humans. Only nature or himself could bring down his fall. He had every where to go. Every door was open to him in the fashion world.

I imagine that it would be a lot of pressure. Every show would have had to live up to the magic that was the last. His mother had recently died. It would have been lonely there on top of the fashion world. Maybe that was the cause of his early demise. But let's not forget him. Let's celebrate the rest of the month as his month. Let's show our respect and gratitude. Let's honor him.

( The child prodigy that is Tavi has a great post on him)

UPDATE: I have added an Alexander McQueen slideshow on the right side of my page. R.I.P.

UPDATE: Lady Gaga's tribute
It's really moving and made me sob like a little girl.

Politics
Unless you've been living under a rock on Mars you've heard of global warming. And if you've been on the internet or been watching TV, you know that due to the recent weather storms on the coast have caused skeptics to... well, be more skeptical. And sarcastically wonder where Al Gore is.

(Actually, I've been wondering where he is for a while to. The last I heard of him, he got won the Nobel Peace Prize. And then, POOF! the media forgot all about him.)

On the other side of the spectrum, enviromentalists have been gloating because there's no snow in Vancouver.

People, global warming is supposed to cause climate change Climate is the weather over a long period of time. Not just one season. So we have to watch for patterns in the last 20 years or so.

Here's the most unprejudiced article I could find on global warming. Actually, it's a column so it's not completely unbiased journalism, but it's the bast I could do. It has a really good quote though.

"Infact, scientists have been warning for atleast two decades that global warming could make snowstorms more severe snow has two simple ingredients: (1) cold and (2) moisture. Warmer air collects moisture like a sponge until it hits a patch of cold air. When temperatures dip below freezing, a lot of moisture creates a lot of snow."

It's a collumn. So it has some opinion. But it also has a lot of facts too.

Silent Film

Ok, so my first blog is going to sound a little narcissistic. Well, not very. (I have a habitual fear of sounding like a braggart.)

I'm a freshman taking a junior class. (eyeroll from the audience) Like I said, not very, But I'm really excited, though, because it's actually IBDP Language Arts Year 1. IB is an international program that's for advanced students. And considering I'm in a public school, it's probably the best education I can get. (Not to diss public schools or anything. But let's face it, The United states is only ranked 18th in the world in secondary education.) So the class is vaguely challenging which is the most challenge I've gotten from a LA class ever. Ok, that was bragging. Sorry.

But we have to write this extended essay. And I don't know what to write about. I mean, I love film so I want to write about that. I especially love silent films (more on that later) but the main problem I have with essays are that I have so many ideas in my head, that I need a very specific thesis, or my essay is too broad and hard to follow.

So my audience, the wonderful people of the great and grand Internet, any ideas? Suggestion? Anything?
